The Basics - An overview of what you will need and learn

Just look at setting up your online business like any other business.

1. You need to rent or buy some real estate or a place where you can sell your products and services. In the digital world this is called hosting and you attach to this your address which is your domain name eg http://www.quentinbrown.com. I suggest you try and register your own name first as you are going to be successful and it will become an asset.

Obviously you need to fit our your shop so you need some tools.

2. A good web page editor (xsitepro)

3. A good presentation software (Camtasia)

4. A good graphics program. ( a second hand version of Photoshop vs 7 maybe)

5. E-commerce so you can collect money, its like your cash register.
( Paypal, 2 Checkout and Clickbank for affiliates)

6. One Management software ( 1 Shopping Cart, Mals Ecommerce, DLGuard or Quickpay Pro)

7. A good follow up program ( Autoresponder - Aweber or Getresponse or plenty of others.)

Once you have all the tools and mastered how to use them you can sell pretty well anything from affiliate products to Cars on the Internet

To be successful you will need to provide something that people want and also make your business stand out from your competitors. An Internet business is not really any different to an offline business except that you can do a lot more for a lot less. Having said this if you try and cut to many corners or do not apply good sound business principles you will end up one of the statistics that I am sure you have heard about.

The secret to success is consistency and if you also add a dash of common sense you will find your business will grow and prosper. I still get sales from work I did 2 years ago through articles etc that I have written. So many times I go to buy a product only to find  they have closed their site or moved on to the next great product.

The best way to lay the foundations for your business is to do a business plan. This will give you direction and a path to follow. Don't rush this step. You will find a great online business plan in the software section.

I also have a friend who specialises in supplying writing pens and makes an excellent income online and off. There are so many opportunities it is simply a matter of increasing your skill level which is what this book is all about and then applying some effort. 

Of course there are no guarantees but I am sure once you have gone through this course you will either be able to set up your own Internet Business or be a lot more valuable to your current employer.
